Nutrition and Senior Citizens Center
Broken Bow Senior Center The George Puckett Nutrition and Senior Center opened March 2003 and employs seven personnel. It is a lovely 6000sq ft facility, located on the edge of the pond, in the beautiful city park. The Center is open from 8 am to 2 pm Monday through Friday for lunch and other activities.Lunch is served at 11:30 am and the cost is minimal. We serve approximately 100 seniors in the dining room and 100 homebound clients daily. Senior citizens are invited to come in at 8 am to play dominoes, cards, work puzzles, quilt or just sit and visit with their neighbors. We have a group that goes to the nursing homes on Wednesdays and Fridays and sing with the residents, and on Thursdays the group sings at the Center. Monthly, a health care provider is there to perform blood pressure screenings and glucose checks. They also provide information on health issues concerning seniors. Every Thursday we play bingo from 12:30 to 1:30, and the charge is $1.00 for 3 cards. Once a month, at 5:30pm on a Friday, we have a birthday and anniversary dinner to celebrate everyone’s birthday and anniversary for that month. Rather than our staff cooking the meal, this is a pot luck with good food to share. Afterwards, we play bingo and there is no charge for Bingo on birthday nights. Annually, as a group, we attend the Senior Day at the Capitol in Oklahoma City, Senior Day at McAlester, enjoy foliage trips and especially look forward to a tour of Christmas Lights. We extend to you, a warm welcome to the Nutrition and Senior Center.
